Happy Birthday to Me!

I turned 35 last weekend and all I can say is wow! this is not at all what I imagined it would be! I had such grand plans when I was young and actually couldn't wait to be in my mid thirties. I thought then I would have a career, a home and everything would be in it's place. Let's see career, could stand a little more money but then again who couldn't, other than that I love my job. Home, no I rent! I have had to move several times over the last few years due to the economy and having to follow work where ever it might be! Life is tough, not at all like the Seevers or Keatons (Family Ties and Growing Pains - oh ya child of the 80's) made things look. I can say this I am proud of who I am and every decision I have made in my life. I have raised 3 smart kids who are becoming amazing young adults and in my eyes that's the most important thing I could have ever done with my life.

To Do 2011

2010 brought many changes in my life - I began taking more time for myself. I have spent the last 17 years living for my children, working full time and going to school full time, while all of that was happening I let myself go I gained 75lbs and put everyone in front of myself. As a result I had high blood pressure and lord only knows what else. So I vowed that in 2010 I was going to take my life back and for the most part I have completely committed to this "resolution". there have been some slips and falls (the last 2 months included) but the core effort is still there and I have come so far from where I was this time last year. So this year I'm going to step up the healthy living a bit more and in addition to the exercising and healthy eating I am going to do my best to eat/ feed my family as organically and local as possible. Living in coastal carolina it's not to difficult to find local fresh fruits and veggies and I think I found a grass fed beef connection :) There are several things I would like to accomplish or work on this year so here goes the list:

  1. See above eat better
  2. Volunteer (already in the works - checking into volunteering at the NC aquarium & therapy horse group)
  3. Try 1 new cheese every month (strange I know but I have discovered I like fancy cheese)
  4. Tour a winery
  5. Let it start with me - don't let stress get to me and learn that I should lead by example in all I do
  6. Continue my effort towards a more sustainable lifestyle (DON'T LET THE RECYCLE BINS GET FULL ACTUALLY TAKE THEM TO THE CENTER WEEKLY!)
  7. Budget Budget Budget and Follow that budget
I just want to live a better more grown up life in the year to come and do my best to be more responsible personally and for my community and my world :)

Dec 30, 2010

The end of my vacation is in sight, sigh, but it has been marvelous! It has been so nice to just be able to sleep in, wake up slowly, read the paper and drink my coffee no to mention how much fun I have had just hanging with my kids. I've had so much quality time with them that I don't get during the usual grind. I think this evening I'm going to go use my gift certificate I bought myself for Christmas (YES, I bought myself a gc only because it was such a great deal at half off depot) at the wine store yeah half price wine win win! Dryer just buzzed the sooner I get this laundry done the sooner I can go play

The most wonderful time of the year

I'm well rested after our holiday trip to Florida to see family. I DID
NOT want to come back! I miss home, my family and friends so much, but know that this is where I am supposed to be for now (and that's a BIG for now) I have the rest of the week off, thank goodness and have no real plans for the rest of the week. Today I laid in bed until noon and stayed in my pajamas until 4pm, it was heaven! Tomorrow will be mall for a few returns then a pedi (a Christmas gift from a work colleague) I am truly blessed and had the most amazing Christmas this year. I missed my family so dearly and am so grateful to have been able to go home for Christmas. I am going to cherish the last few days of 2010 and welcome 2011 and that the new year brings :)

Wow one year almost to the day since my last post!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's insane and I guess shows a pattern of what Thanksgiving does to me. Especially Thanksgiving not spent with family :( I'm really struggling lately with so much in my personal life. I am unhappy and I think a lot of that has to do with my lack of local friends and distance from my friends and family. My best friend in the entire world is going to have a baby any day now and I can't be there! I always thought I would be there for her on that day but I'm not and I can't and I hate myself for that! I miss my family it's been almost 2 years since I've seen my Dad and brother and a few months since I've seen my mom.

Giving Thanks

I have so many things to be thankful for:
  • A wonderful loving family
  • A roof over my head
  • A job that I LOVE!
  • A bountiful meal
I could go on for days the list is endless. We should all take a moment today to not only be thankful but to also remember those serving in our military who can't be with those they love today. God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving!

Back in NC

Well we gave up on Florida and headed back to NC. It has been 1 year to the week since my Hubby has been laid off. Uggh is there ever going to be a light at the end of this endless tunnel, umm I'm starting to get a little claustrophobic! He applies and applies for everything out there and the main problem is that he's just a needle in the haystack. Ohhh economy please pick up so people start buying boats again and my hubby can go back to work!

We finally got chairs today for our dining room table! Yeah for Craig's List free section. Our dining room chairs didn't make the trip up and so we have been searching for chairs since we got up here. I tell you one thing people are PROUD of dining room chairs! I honestly think we could have purchased an entire dining room set cheaper than chairs alone. In celebration of our first family dinner at the dinner table in 3 months we are having a fiesta! Taco night in the W household! Ole'.....notice the place cards :)

It's finally stopped raining, thank goodness I was afraid at one point we were going to float away. Hoping tomorrow there might even be a little sunshine :)

Off to do dishes
